5th December - I'm in Love... With a Brand-New Girl

I didn't think it would be possible... I was so happy, but then she entered my life recently, and everything changed. I wasn't even sure if you can love two girls at the same time, some argued you could, but I never believed it. Well, I do. Because since the little cocker-spaniel named 'Flo' (like Chelsea's former Norwegian striker, Tore Andre) entered our lives a few weeks back, my expectations, and feelings, have flipped 180. You see, I have no shame in actively admitting I despised dogs. Before you judge me, I have my reasons.

A trilogy of traumatic incidents through my childhood involving a stray Alsatian and a wild German Shepherd which both attempted to attack me around 1998-1999 really stained my love for an animal which I was initially drawn to through those famous Andrex adverts with the labradors. By the time we moved into our new Flat in 2000, and met the neighbour's Husky, my suspicions were confirmed when I tried to kick a ball for it to fetch, but the dog instead bit my foot when trying to pick the ball up with her teeth. As an adult, I now recognise the incident to have been nothing more than a simple accident, but try telling a 9-year old boy, who has been attacked by 3 dogs in 3 years, that they aren't evil animals.

I even had my concerns, when, during the first night of Flo living in our new abode, she shat all over the kitchen, and then trampled it all round the house, and stayed up all night, barking, howling, and generally exhibiting real shit-house behaviour. However, upon returning from the Middle East, I found a different dog lodging in our home. A calm, soft, and gentle girl. Loving, and in need of affection. These days, she rolls over for me and touches her paw on my hand when I'm giving her belly rubs, she licks my nose with joy, and snuggles in for cuddles at every opportunity. I'm in love with a brand-new girl...

... Because I'm now in love with both of my girls.
