17th October - Why did everyone own this T-Shirt?

I was listening to some of Rihanna's old stuff in the car with my partner the other night, and it spurred an amusing thought into the heart of my brain... Remember around the 2010-2012 kind of era, and literally every male in the land, between the ages of 15-25, owned that t-shirt with her 'Loud' album cover on? What was all that about? In fact, looking back at it, I think this was the peak of cringe fashion for lads, and I have no shame (yet also, FULL shame) in admitting I owned more of less at least one item of each in the following list of crimes from this era...

CHINOS. With cuffed hems. Tobacco coloured was the staple in every wardrobe around this time, but you could also get them in dark berry, baby blue, even mint green, or vulva pink. SHUTTER SHADES. Like you were peak Kanye, or even worse, 3D CINEMA GLASSES with the lenses popped out for that 'Geek Chic' impact. Do films even still show in 3D? What a weird phase that was. Oh, how about SUPERDRY jackets? Superdry anything really, but especially those windcheater coats with the million zips. And HOLLISTER, or JACK WILLS. The long jogging bottom type pants which cost about £50 a pair and were always sported by the lads with trust funds.

A few more for you... CHEQUERED SHIRTS. With the sleeves rolled up. Man I lived in these, especially on nights out. I had a reddish one which I genuinely think I wore more or less every day for about 3 years, paired with a hooded leather jacket and some garish green converse style plimsolls from 'GAP'. Then there were those BEANIE CAPS, like a cross between a wooly hat and a baseball cap with a peak on the front, weird. Or those odd 'Simon from The Inbetweeners' t-shirts, with the long V-neck and piped colour of collar or arm trim? I'll leave you with one final, horrifying word, to summarise this piece...

... ESPADRILLES.
