13th October - "I was 8 months pregnant and suicidal"

Yesterday, an article I'd worked on extensively, like no other article before, finally went out to the public, and I was really humbled and overwhelmed to see some of the messages which then followed, from members of the public who had felt some kind of emotional connection to such a topic. The piece was an exclusive interview with Liv, one half of the biggest female DJ duo in the world, NERVO. The Australian twins have created some of the biggest songs ever made, including David Guetta & Kelly Rowland's 'When Love Takes Over', and collaborated with Kylie Minogue.

In this article, Liv spoke about a hugely raw, personal, and emotive issue which had plagued her since becoming a mother, even adding that at one stage she was 'suicidal' when 8 months pregnant. The deep depression was influenced by a deceit, which sent her spiralling into a downward motion of negative emotions, and it was an honour to have been able to report such an experience in a way which has - so far - been applauded and praised for the sensitive wording used.

It is my hope that, following #WorldMentalHealthDay earlier this week, we can use speaking up about such traumas to combat any stigma surrounding these topics, and I really wish for articles like this to make a positive impact in the world. What Liv spoke about was an issue which my own Mother endured with my Father, discovering his secret lives, wives, children, and other complications, previously unbeknownst to her. After working on this article for 6 months, there's a sense of relief and emotion that it is now finally thrust into the public domain. I can only leave you today with one slice of advice, which is that when you feel the need to...

... Always speak. Share your truth. Because your voice is heard.
