15th July - Choo, choo, Thomas!

I’ll happily admit, I’m fulfilling a bit of a long-term aim tomorrow… I’m boarding a steam train for an afternoon ride through the countryside in some gloriously green Somerset hills. If you’d have asked me to choose between that and a big messy tear-up 5 years ago, I’d have been straight into the rave pal, no questions asked. But part of growing that slight bit older is realising the importance of family time. For me, that means spending moments with a man who is the closest thing I’ve ever had to a Grandad.

My partner’s grandfather, David, is a humble, quiet, and unassuming man. Gentle, and softly spoken. Incredibly polite, and loving, in a real ‘acts of service’ kind of way. They don’t make them like him anymore. His soul is so pure, and that wholesome energy transcends to all those around him when in his company. He was, therefore, thrilled, when we gifted him with a Steam Train ride for 2 as part of his Christmas gift last year. Alongside my new-found Nanny, Rosemary, the two of them don’t venture much further than their local shops these days, so the idea of such an adventure filled them both with radiating smiles which were heavily infectious.

We allowed David to choose the location as he’s certainly something of a steam train enthusiast, and it was fun to watch him geek out over the different railways etc. As a long-term Harry Potter fan, I’m particularly buzzing to experience what I view in my mind as a real ‘Hogwarts Express’ type of day. Though I sadly doubt the trolley of snacks filled with Chocolate Frogs and Bertie Bott’s every flavour beans will be making an experience. Whatever you’re up to this weekend, have a good one and enjoy the company of those around you. There’s nothing left for me to say, but…

… Choo, choo, Thomas!
