29th June - Don't Sit At Home

We were told to 'Stay At Home' for so long when the pandemic kicked in, that it is now something of a joy to witness so many feeling liberated by the return of freedom to our society. Never was that more evident than Wimbledon yesterday, with hoards of sun-soakers enjoying the entire experience, sipping cold Pimms across several courts and posing for photos alongside celebrities, and beautiful floral displays with all the oozing class and sophistication you've come to expect from an establishment with such a rich heritage and legacy.

What I've learned now - more than ever - is that joy is never experienced in your own four walls. A sense of mild contentedness? Sure. But you'll never feel 'alive' sat in front of a TV, cleaning a sink, scoffing down a bland chicken breast, or endlessly scrolling on Instagram, enviously glancing at all those who are living life out in the real world. You simply HAVE to get out there, you HAVE to explore, and you HAVE to pack as much into your schedule as you can, socially, but not just the same things you do all the time. You have to vary it up, you have to be open-minded, and willing to try new things, to escape your comfort zone.

When I say 'social schedule', I don't just mean drinks with friends, either. All money spent on something which will be pissed out your pipe a few hours later is nothing but pure waste. Instead, book trips abroad, or to live events, such as sporting spectacles, comedy shows, or theatre productions. Life is short, and you owe it to yourself to refuse to give into the temptation of being a boring cunt. Your life is better than that. So many want to LIVE, but have their adventures curtailed by tragedy. Early death, disability, and so on. You sit here today, happy (hopefully) and healthy (even more hopefully). Now, you owe it to yourself to grab what's remaining of your days on Earth, and maximise them. Get off the sofa, and get out that front door. After strict lockdowns spent pinned to our own four walls for months on end, not able to see friends or family, the time to live life is here again...

... Don't waste it by just sitting in the pub, or even worse, at home.
