2nd May - I've been waiting for you...
May is a month I've been waiting a long time for. There's a real lot of things happening this month, and I've felt like so much of my year already has been building towards this. At the end of the month is the pot of gold on the horizon, a break in the Caribbean which was actually booked close to 2 years ago now (cheers, COVID). But it's the first time this year that I'll actively put my phone and laptop down, for more than a 24 hour 'Boxing Day', and I'll be entirely offline for a week.
My phone itself will be in airplane mode to capture pictures and videos as I go swimming with dolphins, and my laptop will be left on my desk at home. Professionally, I'm also heading towards the tail-end of a venture this month, one which I've been taking part in for the best part of 8/9 months now, and I have to admit, it's been a really fantastic opportunity. Both on a personal and nostalgic level for myself, but also as something to have ticked off a bit of a 'bucket list'. I can't quite believe how life pans out sometimes and the opportunities you're afforded. I certainly never really saw myself undertaking this role, even if I did always slightly harbour a bit of a distant dream ambition to do so, and I'm excited to see where the future goes after this.
Of course, there are other things happening this month, too. Like the birth of the Obi-Wan Kenobi series, at long, long, last. But for so many reasons, May has long-felt like my favourite month of the year. Sunny and eternally optimistic with joy and the promise of a fantastic Summer to come, we get to enjoy the spring-time blossom and bright yellow fields of rape-seed, all whilst knowing that the next three months are where our yearly memories are amassed with most force. As we head into a particularly thriving June, where I'll be heading to Africa to volunteer with Orphans, May feels like the climax of a 'season' which started at the tail-end of last Summer, and now gives way to this one. Everything in my power, tells me...
... This one's going to be historic.
