11th April - I'm upset...

I returned back to the U.K last night and was met by an instant wave of sadness. My Mother asked if I was happy to be home, and the resounding answer to that is 'no'. In fact, my partner & I spoke of the concept of 'home' late last night. For me, there is no such thing as 'home'. Only your current address in this very moment, and though I can understand people feeling a certain nostalgic connection to a destination due to memories evoked there over the years (I have my own examples of these... Winchester, Ibiza, etc), we can't allow ourselves to feel 'nailed down' to any one location.

Truth be told, there isn't any destination in the world I'd not consider moving to. Whilst I accept that the way of life can be completely culturally polarising in certain countries (e.g. Japan, China etc), you've got to be willing to give things a go and at least believe that you'd be open to trying them. Of course, I'm grateful to live with the luxuries that the Western world can offer. A life in the U.K means creature comforts of comfy sofas, big TVs, and central heating. Not to mention the pure basics like clean running water, a gift not afforded to every child born into this World.

But at the same time, I can't think of a good enough reason to keep me here until death, either. Maybe it'll be in 5 years, 10 years, or even another 30 (God-willing), but I think I'd certainly regret not spending a few years in somewhere like Australia, or even New Zealand, for example, where the air is so clear and the morals of the country's leader are equally clean. Not quite something we can boast here in corruption HQ. So the next time somebody asks if I'm glad to be back in the United Kingdom, I'll reply:

... I'm upset.
