29th Jan - Boxing Day
Did you know? Today is actually Boxing Day. You heard me. Not 26th December, but today. Or tomorrow, or any day of the week you choose, essentially. Before you call the men in white lab coats to drag me away, I'll explain a little further. You see, I recently watched a video where a CEO of a company stated that he gives himself one day per month as a 'Boxing Day' to ease the stresses and strains of everyday life. I've no idea if he even throws one solitary punch on this day, but he titled it accordingly due to the activities most of take part in on 26th December... Essentially nothing. Boxing Day is a time to sit around, indulging in lethargy, and scoffing leftovers, or festive snacks.
He explained that much like a 'cheat day' among the most hardcore of dieters, (Dwayne 'The Rock' Johnson's is particularly legendary), taking a 'Boxing Day' once a month allows your mind the opportunity to rejuvenate and refresh itself, recovering from the acidic toll you punish it with via your daily hustle. He's got a point. We regularly take time to recharge our physical batteries when exhausted, but how often do we truly put that phone screen down or close the laptop lid?
Of course, I'm a massive hypocrite, as I'm sat here typing this now. Today hasn't been a full boxing day for myself, but - importantly - I have pencilled one in for next week, and I'm working hard each day surrounding it to ensure that it happens and that I can fully enjoy it without that nagging feeling of 'productivity guilt'. I have, however, enjoyed a somewhat lazy morning, indulging in boiled eggs, Football Manager, Ribena and 'The Amazing Spider-Man' which.... I think suffered a fairly harsh reception, looking back. That Garfield-Stone chemistry is pure flames emoji (eurghkk, I'm such a Millennial).
Want my advice? Probably not, but (You want some?) I'll give it ya, anyway The next time you're starting to feel the burnout creeping on you, take a look in your diary...

... And treat yourself to a Boxing Day.
