16th December - The Nation's GREATEST Biscuits? 🤔
We're very lucky here in the United Kingdom when it comes to food choices. Travel to Italy, and you'll find menus plagued with pasta dishes or Naples-style pizza. Head to Russia and there are cabbage dumplings and salads caked in mayo. But here, we have a constant rich tapestry of different cuisines at our fingertips on any night of the week. Indian, Chinese, Turkish, Thai, American, Persian, Mexican... But perhaps our greatest culinary delight can be found on the shelves of any Tesco nationwide... The humble biscuit.
Nobody can rival the UK when it comes to biscuits, but taking a look at this poll from The Sun, there are some truly horrifying results. I love the Jaffa Cake, but the clue is in the name... This is a cake, not a biscuit. Rich Tea & Digestive taste like cardboard and there is honestly no point in spunking your time away with these wastemen. But the Bourbon is a strong O.G, as is the Custard Cream. The Chocolate Digestive is a really strong contender (only if it is McVities), and the Viennese Finger is highly under-rated, even if it does sound a bit like a sexual 'finishing' move.
For me, it comes down to the podium of England's 'Big 3'. These are the boys that put the 'Great' in 'Great Britain', and in reverse (cowgirl) order, we come to the bronze medal... Cadbury's Chocolate Fingers. A shortcake base coated in that magical Brum-based goo, you really cannot go wrong with a box of these buggers. They WILL all get eaten in one consecutive sitting though, guaranteed. In 2nd place, we have the Jammie Dodger, but not the ones with the heart shaped centre. We're talking Fox's 'Jam Creams' with the sprinkling of sugar on them and that creamy inner-filling. And our winner? Well they say a biscuit is only as strong as it is dunkable, and these little pricks can take a hell of a dunking...
... Step forward, the Fox's Crunch Cream!
