6th November - Dirty Little Bitches

My partner's grandparents came to visit yesterday, and in doing so, were talking about people they knew, and even mentioned some characters from the past. Nanny, who is usually such a mild mannered woman and scorns at even the faintest mention of foul language, shocked me to my core, when describing a Woman who she labelled as "a dirty little bitch". She didn't mean it in the way we've often come to accompany that phrase now, with a sexual undertone, more actually referring to this female's hygiene, or more importantly, lack of.

I've never met the Woman she mentioned, it sounds like she was a part of their life long before I came into it, but the more she explained how they girl was smelly, and would very rarely wash, she also started to list other characteristics about the Woman which gave me a great snapshot of her intellectual state. It sounded, with all due respect, as if the Woman in question, was thick as pig shit. And also gave off a stench of pig shit. Which got me thinking... Why is there such a clear and obvious link between somebody's level of hygiene and their level of intellect?

When you see a crack-addled tramp on heroin barking at pigeons outside the doorway of your local Tesco Metro, yes he smells of piss, but he also very rarely gives off the vibe of a man who can solve Albert Einstein's theory of relativity. Now think about all those you know who might give off a bit of a stench, or those chavvy toddlers who sit with a face full of Wotsits crumbs around their gob in the local precinct whilst their Mothers woof away on cigarettes, and gossip to other hooped-earing cum banks, rocking prams in their tracksuits. Dirty = Stupid. And Stupid = Dirty.

Let's back this theory up by thinking about businessmen and women, smart professors or scientists, doctors and so on... They're usually presented in a clean and smart manner, they smell radiant, they look freshly washed. Ergo, Clean = Intelligent. And Intelligent = Clean. I'm not quite sure why this is the case, or the true nature of how it occurs. I can only presume that those of a decent level of intellect understand the importance of presenting a certain level of pride in yourself, your appearance, and how you come across to others, knowing that those who don't wash, are not respected by their peers, or seen as attractive to potential mates, or seen as desirable in a professional sense. After all, who wants the lad who smells like sweat and tobacco sat next to them in the office? To be clean, displays a level of pride in yourself. To be intelligent, displays a level of pride in your own happiness and enjoyability of life. Stupid people ARE dirty, the facts cannot be denied. Or as Nanny would call them....

... Dirty little bitches.
