8th October - Steam Train 2.0
After July's catastrophe, today represented a chance to once again sample a classic steam train, sitting on board in little Harry Potter carriages and watching the steam chug out the front as it plunders along the tracks Hogwarts Express style. The trip was one of those 'Red Letter Day' experiences that you can buy in a gifted box from WH Smiths or wherever and we got it for my partner's Grandparents for Christmas last year. Due to the unfortunate events that occurred when we attempted to board in July, we had to wait 3 months to return to the scene of the crime, but the wait was most definitely worth it.
On this occasion, still mental scarred from the injury, Nanny & Grandad chose to sit this one out, so we gifted the opportunity to our Mothers instead, arriving in Somerset as a foursome, all - without meaning to - wearing black shirts, and spectacles, like some sort of funeral squad. After the train ride, we headed into Bath for what was - surprisingly - my first real trip into the heart of the much acclaimed City. I can see why it is fondly thought of... Big stone coloured buildings, and winding passages filled with character. A real Cotswolds/Winchester/affluent feel, and cute little stalls selling Bratwursts, and home-made Fudge. Today was wholesome, filled with parental/family vibes, though tomorrow will be an entirely different prospect altogether. More to come on that, tomorrow. Until then, this was the story of...
... The Steam Train 2.0.
