4th October - It's Derren Night!
May 2019. That was when I booked tickets to see Derren Brown's 'Showman' tour. Though through various COVID cancellations, postponements, and complications, here I am, 3.5 years later, and finally ready to see him in action tonight at the Oxford New Theatre. I absolutely love Derren as a professional. Not only is he insanely talented, but he's fantastically intelligent, and certainly serves as one of my 'heroes' in terms of the people who I look up to, knowing they can consistently deliver content of the highest calibre to their audience, alongside the likes of Russell Brand, Ricky Gervais, Charlie Brooker, and Tyson Fury.
I first saw him 'live' in 2015, during his 'Miracle' tour, but I've been watching him since probably around 2006 kind of time, fascinated by his psychological experiments on Channel 4, and the peak of my 'Derren mania' arrived in 2009 when he used hypnotic elements in his show to leave TV viewers at home literally stuck to their seats, and unable to stand up. I'm not too sure what to expect from a tour titled 'Showman', but knowing ol' Dezza, he'll be leaving us open-mouth, and flabbergasted in amazement. That's almost a guarantee. Just a short one from me today as my schedule is jam-packed before the show, but a full review will follow tomorrow. Until then...
... It's Derren Night!
