23rd September - My New Tattoo

I'm off to the tattoo parlour this morning, it will be my 5th in total, so I'm not quite an 'ink head' yet and certainly don't plan on going that way, either. But I've always liked the idea of having a few special tattoos which mean something to you, personally. My first, like the two they were devoted to, came as a pair, in Summer 2014, when I got my Son's names and D.O.Bs on my wrists. I give both wrists a small kiss every night before sleeping, so that even when I'm away from them, I still feel somehow connected to them, even in the smallest way.

A few years after that I got three symmetrical lines on my arm, which was really a joint tribute, firstly to the three most important people in my life, but it is also the logo of Third Party, who have grown from heroes, to colleagues, to friends, over the years. Their music has helped lift me in even the darkest of times, and it felt only right and somehow fitting in the overall landscape of the universe, that after getting the all clear from Hammersmith hospital in Autumn 2017, I was invited to meet the lads the very next night at their apartment pre-party before their Ministry of Sound show. The rest, as they say, has been beautiful history.

My final one came just a year ago, when I asked for the logo of Avicii to be tatted upon my left bicep. All who know me will be aware of the impact Tim the man, and also Tim the musician had on me over the years. It is no exaggeration to suggest that the person I've become today, and the passions I possess all stem back to the origins of those first unfinished demos I ever heard around 2009 kind of time. Today, my new tattoo will symbolise a permanent reminder of the newest and now most pivotal member of my life. Somebody who has healed me and taught me how to open my heart once more and gift my greatest gift to them... Compassion, sensitivity, and above all...

... LOVE.
