22nd September - My Orchestra Debut

Am I going to the Royal Albert Hall tomorrow night? Absolutely. Am I a geek? Probably. Hotel? Trivago. Ya see, the thing is, I'm an avid Star Wars fan, always have been, ever since they were re-released in '97 and I went to see 'Empire Strikes Back' with my Dad. He ruined the Vader moment for me though before we even entered, which was a bit naff. But regardless, I loved it, and soon after, when my filthy rich cousin amassed the big chunky VHS tapes in the gold-bound boxes, I was addicted. For his 9th birthday, we went to see 'The Phantom Menace' in the cinema. I returned the favour on my 15th, when we watched 'Revenge of the Sith'.

So tomorrow, I'm heading out to see an orchestral rendition of 'Return of the Jedi' and the concept is quite uniquely brilliant. I'd been wanting to see a full orchestra in action, especially at an iconic location like the Royal Albert Hall, for some time now and even had a ticket booked to the Above & Beyond Acoustic show prior to COVID, but naturally, like everything, that soon got cancelled with no sign of a rescheduled date. However, everything happens for a reason, and I saw my window of opportunity when I realised they'd be showing one of my favourite movies of all time in the venue, with the orchestra performing live scores of the musical parts of the film. In Star Wars, there are many. All composed by the majestic, and utterly brilliant, John Williams. This is how I choose to spend my Friday nights as an adult man, and if that leads you to feel compelled to mock me, then so be it...

... It is my destiny.
