14th September - Why do you read these?
Genuine question. Because I'm glad that you do, and I thank you for that, but I'm also intrigued as to why you do. When I started this diary, the purpose was solely internal for me. I figured that by forcing myself to open my laptop lid every day of my life this year, my laptop would then be open, and hence, I'd be motivated into doing work. Whereas when the lid is closed and sat on the desk/sofa etc, it can be far too easy to forget about it all and just zone out and waste time in front of the TV etc.
That aim has certainly worked for me this year, 2022 has been my most productive of all time. But I've actively chosen to never TRY to gain followers on this diary, it's been more of a private project reserved for those closest to me, to read, should they wish to. I've certainly not done the whole 'follow for follow' thing on Insta etc, in fact, the official YOTG Insta-page is following 0 users. But today, I spoke with the editor of a major website who asked if I'd want to post my daily posts on their website.
I don't quite see the fascination of looking into the daily life of a 'stranger', but already, there are a few followers on the YOTG Insta who I've never met before, so I can only presume the 'Anne Frank' effect is still alive and well. As I said, I'm very grateful for all those who take time to witness the 30 minutes per day I spend on these posts (sometimes more, if it's a big one), but I'd like to know why you do. Because understanding my audience is the first step...
... Before I choose whether or not to take this a bit more global.
