27th August - Rock, Paper, Scissors
You may have seen the 'Rock, Paper, Scissors' date night trending across TikTok. Well today, we gave it a go. But first, there was the idea of 'date day', which is a concept my partner and I have recently amassed, with the notion that once a month, I'll pick a random date for us to enjoy, and the following month, she'll do the same. We'll keep alternating like this throughout the year, meaning that in total, I get to pick 6 dates for her to enjoy across 12 months, and she does the same. She requested that I kick things off, and the only rule is that we have to stay within a joint £50 budget, so for our opening gambit, I surprised her with a trip to Cotswold Wildlife Park.
The budget was enough for entry to the park for the both of us, a couple of Mr Whippies with a Flake on the way round, and then £13 left in the kitty to head to ASDA and delve into the 'Rock Paper Scissors' date night. The idea, is that a couple enter a supermarket, and partake in 4 different games of Rock, Paper, Scissors. The winner of each game gets to pick an item for the date night. Main course. Dessert. Movie Snacks. Drink. Well needless to say, I somehow lost at all four and it was a clean sweep as my partner proudly picked up a 'Chinese Meal for 2' box from the big fridge, celebrating her 4-0 victory triumphantly as she also placed a combo of Apple Juice & Cranberry juice into the trolley.
Being a good soul, she felt guilty about her whitewash though and picked chocolate trifle for dessert, which was definitely because she knows I love it, and opted for Skittles and Milkyway Magic Stars as our movie snacks. Really, I should have allowed her to pick the movie too, but we'd already agreed some time back that I'd take her 'Rocky' hymen, introducing her to my favourite film series of all time, and by the end of the first we were already screaming 'Adriaaaaan!' in unison at the T.V. We then blitzed through a further 4 Rocky movies (including the pure drama of Ivan Drago in IV, and Clubber Lang - who my partner keeps calling 'Cobbler Lang' in III). Truth be told, it was one of the best date day/nights we've ever had. For all those reading, and looking for date inspiration...
