11th July - Day at the Races

It's a Sunny Monday and I'm off to Windsor for a day at the races! This is actually the first time I've ever been to a live horse-racing event, and I'm pretty excited as it's something that's been on my bucket-list for a while now. I'll happily admit that I'm not the biggest horse racing expert, I do like to place a flutter on the Grand National every year - as most do - and I've had a lot of luck in recent years. That's all it is though, luck. I usually pick a horse on the basis of liking the name, the jockey's colours, or if I've ever heard of the trainer's name before.

Luckily, my friend Jack works as a top racing journalist for The Sun and he's always happy to provide some tips or advice when I hit him up, but he also opened up recently on his own struggles with gambling, so I'd always urge attendees to bet small, and within their means. The only downside of the day, aside from the inevitable cokeheads and Tories, is that we are members of the 'Jubilee' club, as this was a Christmas present from my fiancee, and consequently, that means dressing up smart, which I absolutely despise. Truth be told, I find the stifling formality of stiff collars and uncomfortable blazers/ties a little disconcerting even at the best of times, but on a sweltering day in Windsor? Not ideal. Regardless, I'm sure it's gonna be a really enjoyable...
