31st May - She Said Yes!
Turns out, a mangled elbow wasn't the only thing I came back from Punta Cana with... I now have a fiancée too! Huge life moments like this are the exact reason why I wanted to keep a diary of my year. Believe me when I say, 2022 is getting smashed harder than any year of my life. By now... You'd have all likely seen the myriad of photos/videos online, but what you wouldn't have seen is the 6 or so months of planning which went into it. I'm just glad the end result resembled a good proportion of the vision I had in mind, even if there were a few slight altercations which I had to roll with. One of which, rather comically, was the music which accompanied the moment.
I was told, prior to arrival, that I'd be able to bring a USB and load it with music which I wanted to accompany the 'big moment'. The staff would then be able to play this off a giant speaker located on the beach. The song I chose, was a string instrumental version of a classic love song, which holds a special place in the heart of myself and my now Wife-to-be. To ensure no complication, I deleted all the previous folders of tracks stored on this USB, so that the waiter could focus on the one special track to accompany the romantic moment... Or at least I thought I did!
After our special song ended, there was a brief two second pause before I could make out the distinctive sounds of a rolling tech-house kick-drum. Suddenly, the beach was awash with the sounds of an MK remix of Disciples' banger, 'Chemical', ironically a track which my partner and I also bonded over at the Creamfields Horizon stage last Summer. Following that, it was Nervo's 'Basement' on Toolroom Records, the Oliver Heldens remix of Roger Sanchez's 'Another Chance', and AVIRA's rework of 'Veins' by Third Party. By this point, all the local waiters and staff members were dancing towards the beach, hands in the air, as were passers-by on the nearby walkway.
I soon realised that this was the USB I'd used during my DJ set in Liverpool last Autumn, and could then accurately start predicting the next track in the mix, as Calvin Harris' 'By Your Side' filled the night air. All eyes are now firmly set on our Wedding itself, which I can certainly promise, is going to be one helluva party. In typically organised fashion, we've even got the date and venue locked in, but more news on that TBA shortly! Don't worry though, there's plenty of time between now and then. This needs to be planned carefully to ensure the highest possible quality of day. As does the stag! I've heard rumours of Prague...
... But the word 'Vegas' seems to be getting thrown around a fair bit now, too!
