27th May - Top 10: Meals
Probably the most enjoyable 'Top 10' countdown of the week so far, it's time to take a look at the mouth-watering array of selections on offer here, in my 'Top 10 Meals'...
10. Carbonara
Creamy and moreish, I could honestly eat this by the saucepan-full. Nice with a real smoky ham/bacon, and a generous dashing of black pepper and Parmesan over the top. Serve it alongside garlic bread.
9. Pizza
Simply put, who doesn't love pizza? I've never met anybody who's not a fan. My favourite is - ideally - a super meaty one, with a stuffed crust, but I'm happy to admit I'm also (controversially) open to pineapple.
8. Sunday Roast
You know where you stand with this classic British staple. Lashings of gravy, and yes, mash does belong on a roast. As do roasties, yorkshires (even if you're not having beef), parsnips, and mint sauce.
7. Mixed Grill
The first item I look for on the menu in just about every pub... How can you not salivate when looking at this line-up? Chicken, steak, sausage, gammon, chips, onion rings, mushroom, peas, tomato, fried eggs.
6. Indian Curry
Takeaway doesn't count. You've gotta go into the local Indian restaurant for full vibes. The hot little wet-wipes, the Bollywood music, the ice-cold pint of Cobra. My order? Lamb Bhuna, Pilau, Keema Naan.
5. Nandos Burgers
A famous recipe from the 'Gable Kitchen'. Chicken in peri salt, red onion, beef tomato, melted cheese, perinaise-smeared bap-lids and a touch of hot sauce. Served with sweet potato fries and halloumi sticks.
4. Chicken Lasagne
Lasagne is surely the King of pasta dishes, but I'm not a huge fan of mince. I do, however, adore chicken. Replace the former with the latter, then cook it in a white sauce with ham, spinach, and Pinot Grigio.
3. Doner Kebab
Most people argue that you can only be drunk to enjoy these. Not true. Lash on a load of extra onions, top it all off with heaps of garlic mayo, and then throw the greasy doner meat over a pile of cheesey chips.
2. Fajitas
It's an absolute fucking treat when you're having these bad boys for dins, and I don't think that excitement will ever leave my life. I've recently popped refried beans in them, too, to add a delicious thickness to it.
1. Christmas Roast
The absolute daddy of all the meals. The one pile of nosh you look forward to for an entire year, and when it comes, it absolutely delivers, and leaves you feeling nauseous 'til NYE. Three words: Pigs. In. Blankets.
