22nd May - Top 10: Soft Drinks
Whilst I'm away this week, 'Year of the Gable' will feature a series of different 'Top 10' categories. One daily, giving you my thoughts/opinions on - just about - the Top 10 of everything. We start, today, with soft drinks. So without further ado, here they are...
10. Lucozade Sport
Has to be the orange one, though. I love the feel of these bottles, too. They're super squidgy and the flip-cap is an advantage. Having said that, too many of these can - and WILL - give you the shits.
9. Pepsi Max Cherry
Pepsi Max is easily the best non-sugar soft drink on the market, and of all the variations in flavour, nothing can beat the Cherry version, which actually also trumps main rival, Coca-Cola Cherry.
8. Tropicana Smooth
Screw the rest, get the best. Tropicana is the O.G of O.J for a reason. It's sweet, slightly tangy, and full of fresh flavour. You have to be a serious psycho to choose the one with lumps in, though.
7. Fanta Limon
Ahhh yes, the taste of the Med. No holiday - particularly in Spain - is complete without these. In fact, I'm so used to mixing it with Vodka that I forgot what it tastes like by itself. The answer, is pretty good!
6. Frijj Fudge Brownie
King of the Frijj family, closely followed by chocolate, this sweet treat is like a dessert in a bottle. Also strangely adored by my Grandfather during his latter stages of dementia, so gets the sentimental vote.
5. Fanta Fruit Twist
The second member of the 'Fanta Family' takes a spot in the Top 5, thanks to this hyperactive blend of colours, sugar, and probable E numbers. Despite that, it's refreshingly and exceedingly Summery.
4. Banana Yazoo
It was only recently that I discovered the bottle of Yazoo titles the product as a 'milk based drink', so presumably it isn't real milk? Regardless, it's scrumptious. Banana is slightly better than Strawberry.
3. Dr. Pepper
What's the worst that could happen? Answer: Diabetes, obesity, and heart failure. But despite the obvious warnings of this sugary fizz-based wonderland, it's just so deliciously moreish and unique.
2. M&S Pressed Apple Juice
Listen, at this point you're either thinking I'm a Tory or a Snob, or both. But don't knock it 'til you've tried it. The Marks & Spencer A.J is by far the best around. It has to be the 'pressed' Pink Lady one though!
1. Coca-Cola
What else were you expecting? A boring winner, but nothing else compares, especially when on draught whilst nursing a meaty hangover. It also, somehow, tastes better from a glass bottle than a plastic one.
