7th Feb - Coleslaw & Valentines
Corr blimey gov'nor, that was a chilly one this morning! You know those days when you step outside and your glasses steam up, your cheeks go a rosy kind of labia-pink, and you start impersonating Smaug as you breathe out puffs of air into the frost-bitten sky. On the plus side, I managed to guzzle through another sizeable chunk of my latest book during my morning commute. I set myself a target during the tail-end of 2021 to consume a minimum of 2 books per month this year, and am so far well on course to smash the batty out of this one.
The first? Peter Schmeichel's autobiography. I learned that his middle name is 'Boleslaw', like Coleslaw, but with a B. Then it was the Avicii biography, a beautifully insightful and well-crafted production. Now, I'm onto Michael Carrick's. Okay, I never tried to insinuate that these books were deeply philosophical. Though there is a worrying Manchester United themed trend here... Might need to put a stop to that, sharpish.
I'm just grateful that this Monday is a 'normal Monday'. Next week is Valentines which means an undeniable flurry of unimaginative gents carrying red roses and Cadburys Milk Tray on the train home. Maybe even a card, or at a push - a plush toy with some kind of warm greeting message ingrained in the belly. Listen, I'm not opposed to the idea of Valentines, not at all. But I also feel (soppy alert) that you should be appreciating one another 365 days per year, right? Rather than just one designated night. Bah humbug, maybe I'm just a scrooge, I guess you could eat turkey and sprouts in June, or scoff Easter Eggs in September, but none of us do.
Must not upset the social equilibrium, Jake. Must not upset the equilibrium. In other news, following my blog about brunch yesterday, I've decided to post a full ranking of the best cocktails sometime later this week. Give me your suggestions, I'm keen to hear your thoughts. I'm loving the rankings articles actually, I just published my list of the (worst to best) Star Wars movies. Take a peek! Until next time...
... May the force be with you.
